Child Support Lawyers

Child support is the payment made by one parent to the other to help with the costs of looking after children.

The application for child support can also be made by one or both parents to another person who has care of their children.

Child support is usually payable until a child turns eighteen (18) years of age, but may be stopped early if the child becomes self sufficient, marries, or becomes a partner of a ‘couple’.

A party may apply for a child support assessment directly through the Child Support Agency or the parties may choose to enter into a private agreement. It is important to note that not all private agreements are legally binding and as such, advice from a family law Solicitor should be sought before entering into any private child support agreement.

Robertson Hayles Lawyers can assist you with all facets of child support including the application to the Child Support Agency or with the negotiation, drafting and advice required to enter into a binding Child Support Agreement. Our family law Solicitors will also encourage you to give proper consideration to other matters which may arise from any child support agreement such as Parenting arrangements, taxation and other financial issues.
